About Us > Lucinda Harshey
I grew up doing crafts and projects with fibers and cloth. I well remember the joy of learning to sew clothing. As a young newlywed I was able to make custom curtains I could never have been able to purchase as well as make clothing to increase my working wardrobe at time when money was in short supply. Sewing was more than a labor of love, it was a necessity. I have spent most of my adult life making and exploring all different forms of fiber art. Learning to weave has been a natural extension of my earlier hobbies; sewing, needlepoint, crochet, crewel, macrame and cross stitch. Weaving allows me create a fabric to turn into something useful and decorative. It brings something new into the world that has never existed before since weaving is an act of creation. Each project is an adventure in texture, color, pattern and form.
I use mostly natural fibers. To me the feel of the fabric is as important as the look. Wool, alpaca, cotton and linen each have their unique properties that bring beauty as well as functionality to the fabric. Handwoven items are a labor of love for me and I give them proudly as gifts to the people in my life. Each one has been received with joy. I am pleased to have made tomorrows heirloom.
